President Obama issued an executive order on immigration that ensures fewer children experience the trauma of being forcefully separated from their parents due to deportation. An estimated 5 million undocumented immigrants, many of them mothers and fathers, will now be able to come out of the shadows and live without fear.
This executive action is only a temporary reprieve for about half of the undocumented immigrant population and could be overturned by a future president. Congress still needs to pass a comprehensive immigration reform bill that would permanently fix our country’s broken immigration system.
You are invited you to continue standing in solidarity with immigrants by taking the following actions:
• Thank President Obama for this bold action and to tell your senators and representative that you support this executive action and encourage them to do the same.
• View this YouTube video of women religious explaining why this executive action is morally important.
• Join the US Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Justice for Immigrants’ national call to learn more about the executive action and ask any questions that you may have.
