CALL LEGISLATIVE LEADERS – this week to urge them to increase revenues in the budget. Call the Finance Committee co-chairs and legislative leaders TODAY, asking that they increase revenues rather than rely on cuts to important programs to fill the deficit.
This is a critical week for the CT General Assembly’s Finance Committee and leaders to hear from you about the need to increase revenues in the budget. The Committee is meeting this weekend to discuss their draft budget.
Phone numbers and talking points available on our Take Action page
Talking points:
- CT’s budget needs more revenue, not further cuts to critical programs.
- We need to raise more revenue from those most able to afford it.
- Increase income tax rates on the top 2%, including those earning $1+ million/yr.
- Close loopholes to ensure that corporations pay their fair share of taxes on profits earned in CT.
$400 million in revenues – That’s what the Better Choices Coalition estimates that state would raise by increasing income tax rates on the top 1-2% of Connecticut taxpayers. Increasing rates to 6.8% on those earning $1-2 million a year and to 8.8% on those earning more than $2 million would ensue more revenue while keeping our rates below that of New York’s.
