The STEM Jobs Act of 2012 eliminates the diversity visa program in order to provide visas solely to immigrants who have received a doctorate or masters degree in any science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) field from a United States institution. This prioritizes the few over the many. Tell your representatives today that you do not support the elimination of the diversity visa program and therefore do not support HR 6429.
Background:
The House of Representatives will discuss H.R. 6429, the STEM Jobs Act of 2012. This bill will eliminate the diversity immigrant program in order to provide visas to immigrants who have received a doctorate or masters degree in any science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) field from a United States institution. This means that 55,000 permanent residency visas that are available to a diverse group of immigrants will be reallocated sole to high-tech workers.
