Contribute to the Life & Work of the Collaborative Center for Justice!
Dear Friends,
Your gift matters now more than ever as the Collaborative Center for Justice adds a vibrant moral voice to the public sphere in Connecticut and beyond. We continue to bring the values of the women religious who founded the Center to the forefront of our work to uphold human rights, to combat economic inequality, to defend the rights of immigrants and refugees, and to promote environmental justice.
We do this through political advocacy, educational outreach to laypeople, and community organizing. Here are some initiatives past gifts have supported since our last Lenten appeal:
- Our Voices for Justice Network repeatedly mobilized behind the victorious Campaign for Paid Family Leave. During the 2020 session, we will continue our advocacy efforts to ensure a just implementation of the law. The Center also contributes to ongoing resistance efforts against the expansion of the state’s fossil fuel infrastructure, particularly in working class communities and communities of color.
- We have collaborated with several community partners to offer educational programs that advance the Center’s vision for civic life. We facilitated conversations and workshops on advocacy at the Center for Leadership & Justice, Trinity College, and Yale. This fall, we developed a workshop based on Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si that we use to help lay communities concerned about the environmental crisis put their faith into action.
- The Center continues its community organizing with the Greater Hartford Interfaith Action Alliance (GHIAA). On October 28, the Center and 34 other founding member institutions launched GHIAA in front of over 1,500 people. During the 2020 legislative session, Center staff are helping to lead GHIAA’s statewide legislative campaign for “clean slate” criminal justice reforms. We are thrilled to contribute to the ongoing development of this exciting faith-based organization!
Over twenty years ago, five (and later a sixth) congregations of women religious formed the Collaborative Center for Justice in order to bring systemic change to the conditions that made their charitable ministries necessary in the first place. While laypeople now run the Center’s day-to-day operations, our mission remains the same: To advance the Gospel’s vision of justice that cherishes the humanity of those who are poor and vulnerable. Your gift contributes to that goal! We hope that you will consider making a contribution during this Lenten season. Click here to donate.
Gratefully,
