Today, March 8, is International Women’s Day. This year’s theme is “Think Equal, Build Smart, Innovate for Change”. According to UN Women, this theme “puts innovation by women and girls, for women and girls, at the heart of efforts to achieve gender equality.” Women’s voices and ideas must be included, and central, in the shaping of policies and systems that impact women’s lives.
Join us today in celebrating the achievements of women and girls all around the world, and in learning more about technological advances and innovative solutions that have been led by women.
Then join us in advocating for systemic change, on issues that directly impact women, including equal pay, access to adequate health care, and protection from violence and discrimination.
A number of related, positive bills are being considered in Connecticut this legislative session, including:
- SB 1: An Act Concerning Paid Family and Medical Leave.
- HB 5003: An Act Implementing a Paid Family Medical Leave Program.
- S.B. 2: An Act Increasing the Minimum Fair Wage.
- H.B. 5004: An Act Raising the Minimum Fair Wage.
- Proposed H.B. 5639: An Act Raising the Minimum Wage in Connecticut.
- SB 765: An Act Ensuring Fair and Equal Pay for Equal Work
We encourage you to raise your voice in support of policies that will advance and protect women’s rights and help ensure a more equal presence in places of decision making.
